Data Scientist 2 - Human Factors
Pacific Northwest National LaboratoryRichland, WA 99354




Overview:
Data science at PNNL addresses critical national and global issues by applying scientific, mathematical, and engineering techniques to mission-focused data and challenges. This position requires thought leadership and technical depth to support the development and advancement of human behavior and cognitive modeling research and capabilities as it relates to the development of our data science solutions.

Responsibilities:
The data scientist in behavior and cognitive modeling should have the following attributes:
  • Ability to contribute that knowledge to the academic and research strength of PNNL and have experience writing scientific publications demonstrating their insight and discovery (e.g., publication in conferences such as Chi, Psychonomics, Cognitive Science Society, Human Factors and Ergonomics Society is preferred)
  • Experience using mathematical and statistical methods to make inferences from behavioral data and visual analytics
  • Experience measuring human performance in applied domains and conducting human subjects studies



This position requires interactions with government, military, and industry officials nationwide for a variety of programs, projects, and tasks, including technical and programmatic concept development, planning, coordination, integration, and execution that can be supported by data science and visual analytic techniques.


Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-
  • MS/MA -OR-
  • PhD
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, or related field
  • Desire to be a technical leader as well as organizational leader in human-centered studies
  • Experience training junior researchers
  • Active Federal Q Clearance and ability to maintain such clearance
Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment:
Human subjects experiments may be conducted. Ability to pass CITI training and work with IRB is required.
Additional Information:This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance (DOE Q).

Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance with 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
  • Drug Testing: All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the candidate selected is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).


Note:

Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months can be demonstrated.

Testing Designated Position (TDP):
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
